What we do
Programmes & Focus Areas
Five areas of work, built on the conviction that socio-economic transformation depends on the quality of political leadership and the evidence behind its decisions.
01
Leadership Development & Training
MKI runs leadership development and training programmes across the country, with the ambition of reaching all 47 counties at a rhythm of two trainings a month.
The Institute holds that socio-economic transformation — higher household incomes and a better quality of life — depends on the quality of political leadership and the decisions it makes. Our training equips leaders, both elected and aspiring, with a firmer grasp of the policy-making process and the economic dynamics that drive development, and with the tools to build a robust intersection of commerce, enterprise and development grounded in evidence rather than populist posturing.

02
Fellowship Programme
The Institute is rolling out a Fellowship Programme conferring fellowship on individuals who have made a distinguished contribution to the service of the nation and to the advancement of the Institute's ideas and President Kibaki's legacy.
Fellows maintain a close working relationship with the Institute. With its support they mobilise resources for research and policy work in their fields of expertise, and take part in the Institute's research, publishing, policy roundtables and dissemination. Fellows are expected to advance not only their own excellence but the Institute's.
03
Economic Blueprint Development
MKI takes the lead in promoting concrete, feasible and viable economic blueprints for the country and its counties, and seeks a role in the envisioning processes that produce tangible plans for economic and social transformation.
Current work
Mt. Kenya Vision 2050
The Institute is leading the visioning process for the Central Kenya Region Economic Bloc (CEREB), developing a vision and economic blueprint for the ten counties of the Mt. Kenya region. MKI expects to replicate this process across Kenya's other eight regional economic blocs.
04
Research & Public Policy Analysis
The Institute seeks to be at the forefront of cutting-edge research and policy analysis on the critical issues facing the nation — work grounded in evidence-based policy making, sound economic management, long-term planning, strong institutions and investment-led growth.
Publications will be available here as they are released.
05
Communication, Polls & Information Dissemination
MKI is building a strong capability in effective communication and information dissemination, and will conduct periodic polls on the current issues that shape policy, leadership and the wider governance apparatus.
